DBTC Goes to China: Training & Competition Journey 2024

A week of competition, intensive training, and international exposure for our DBTC players in Shenzhen and Chengdu.


From 24 May to 1 June 2024, DBTC players embarked on a meaningful training and competition journey to China, combining international tournament participation with high-intensity training sessions in Shenzhen and Chengdu.


Shenzhen — 2024 Yonex Youth Badminton Tournament

24–26 May 2024

Our players took part in the 2024 Yonex Youth Badminton Tournament held in Shenzhen, gaining valuable international match experience against strong regional opponents.


Tournament Results:

  • GS U9 — Althea Yeo 🥈
  • BS U9 — Zack Low 🥉
  • BS U11 — Ong Jun Yang 🥉
  • GS U10 — Chen Yan Zhen — 5th place
  • BS U8 — Ye Han Qing — 5th place


These results reflected not only strong competitive performance, but also the players’ composure, resilience, and adaptability in an international tournament environment.


We would like to acknowledge Tong Wah Teo, World Champion Gong Rui Na, and Malaysia National Team Coach Allan Tai for their guidance, mentorship, and invaluable support throughout the competition phase.


Chengdu — Intensive Training Camp

26 May – 1 June 2024


Following the tournament, the team continued to Chengdu for an intensive training camp, where players underwent structured daily training sessions focused on:

  • Technical refinement
  • Tactical development
  • Match play exposure
  • Physical conditioning


The training environment provided valuable insight into high-performance training standards, allowing players to experience disciplined routines, long training hours, and competitive sparring sessions against strong local athletes.


Beyond technical improvement, the Chengdu camp also strengthened players’ mental resilience, discipline, and independence. It's essential qualities for long-term athlete development.




This China trip offered our players a comprehensive learning experience by combining international competition, elite training exposure, and cultural immersion. It served as an important milestone in their development journey, broadening perspectives and strengthening motivation.



The Shenzhen and Chengdu programs reflected DBTC’s continued commitment to providing holistic development opportunities that go beyond routine training, supporting both sporting growth, personal development and what made the journey truly special was the sense of togetherness, the moments of laughter, shared meals, and simple connections that turned the trip into lasting memories.
